Writing—great writing—can happen anywhere…and does! I love writing in my home office. It has a lot of perks, including a big mug of coffee. I don’t even have to get out of my pajamas if I don’t want to. My Spotify playlist keeps me company, and my candle fills the room with its rich scent. (My favorite right now is Paris Café!) Outside my window, I can watch the birds at the feeders, watch the squirrels empty those same feeders quickly, and check out the new flower garden I’ve put in.
But sometimes I need to shake it up a bit—because I find myself watching those birds more than my computer screen…or I remember the laundry that needs done. Or the dusting. Sometimes, it’s just too quiet. I need to be somewhere that provides that extra little buzz. My best books have been written in my favorite places.
Cabin Coffee Company is my go-to. They always have a cup of fresh-roasted coffee for me along with my BLT minus the L! Enough said? Yes! I even have a favorite table there, tucked away but still in the stream of things. In addition to my caffeine fix, I get my people fix there. I draw on it for energy, for new character inspiration, speech inflections, styles of dress.
I love writing on the balcony of a cruise ship in the Caribbean, at a B&B in northern Canada. I love writing in Georgia’s mountains and on Florida’s beaches. As long as I have my trusty laptop with me—or even a scrap of paper and a pencil—I can write anywhere…and love it!
Cabin Coffee Co. in Blairsville, Georgia, nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, is always bustling with friendly people. I managed to snag a picture during one of its rare lulls. The staff…and the fresh-roasted coffee…is the absolute best!
Grabbing some writing time at the beautiful Wild Swan Bed & Breakfast Inn in Minden, Ontario.
What can I say? It’s tough, but someone’s got to do it! In the Caribbean on my way to Curacao, one of my happy places.
Writing at home with Wilson, Belle, my coffee…and dozens of characters running around in my head!
